Zero Waste: Veganuary
Jan. 3rd, 2020 12:53 amVeganism is popular amongst the most hardcore zero-wasters, but it’s not something that I agree with personally; I just don’t think we can get enough nourishment from a vegan diet to be healthy. I also think that the extremism of veganism is overkill, pun intended 🤗 That being said, in terms of environmental impact a vegetarian diet is most certainly the way to go. When you start to look into the environmental impact of the meat industry, it is quite stark, with beef being the worst offender.
I am not a vegetarian, and Scot is fairly committed to a beef and chicken diet so it will be difficult to make substantial changes on this front. Scot does all of our cooking and he has introduced a couple of vegetarian dishes so we have decided to aim for one vegetarian meal per week. It’s not quite Veganuary, but it is a step in the right direction. I think the next step will be to reduce our beef intake, and gradually eliminate more meat. I feel like I have enough on my plate (boom) for now so this will be another long-term goal. I seem to have a lot of these now.
